Dempsey hill is an old army barracks that has been transformed into a furniture and art shopping experience along with some great restaurants. I had been wanting to see what was there so I met another expat wife and we had an adventure(we are called expats here). The first thing you see is an amazing water feature of pottery crocks and there were some amazing fish in the pond.
The fish are called Arapaima and are a South American freshwater fish that can grow over 8 feet and weigh more than 200 pounds. I was fortunate to be there at feeding time which is around 11am daily. The man feeds the pig-nose turtles first because they are so slow to get the food. He says this turtle is endangered snd these turtles just showed up in the pond one day... He seems to think that someone had them as pets and became afraid that the authorities might find out. I wonder how many "cane" strikes that would be if you were caught... They are very strict here.

So we shopped and looked at antiques and reproductions and teak and statues and art and had such fun just looking at everything.

I will definitely go back again with Mike in tow to enjoy some of the other restaurants!
