Here we go again... Mike gets a weekend off and I drag him around Singapore, exploring. First, we received a package from home... Wonderful Blue-out shirts and candy from the Lindale Candy Company! Thanks to Ronda and Penny for the gifts! We decided to go to the northern side of the island to The Woodlsnds (no it is nothing like the Woodlands in Texas!) we took the MRT, the red line, and headed out. After about thirty minutes we arrived at the Woodlands MRT. This area is where the American school is located and supposedly many expats (Americans) live there. Boy was I disappointed... It was just another mall with an outdoor market... Now don't get me wrong, it was fun to see, but it was more of the same! We started in the outdoor market walking around just observing the food and experiencing the culture. They do eat some different foods than we are accustomed to eating. I have tried the "tea leaf eggs" which are boiled eggs that have the shells lightly cracked. Then they are cooked in a tea-like mixture - they are quite tasty. Some of the other delicacies like "octopus balls" and meat skewered on large poles are a little to strange for me to try! We then went inside the mall... Very large but same stores just like all of the other malls. We ate lunch at Swensen's and had icecream for dessert... They sure do serve lots of sweets here for all of these people to be so skinny! After lunch and shopping we headed home and passed by the horse track, I didn't even know they had horse racing here! One of the MRT stations was "Yew Te" also known to us Texans as UT! When they announced this on the intercom, we laughed so hard! We had a nice leisure day together! We did enjoy a new product, Cronuts, which are a cross between a donut and croissant. Mine was Nutella and Mike had strawberry. It was wonderful, just like it sounds!
