Malay Area in Singapore

I went with some friends to a new area where I had not been before, the Malay area of town. The people here are quite different than other areas, they were much more pleasant and this seems to be a nice little community of very friendly people. We walked up and down streets and into the markets and mall where beautiful material is sold as well as jewelry and cookware and of course, FOOD! We were taken to a place that makes popiah and I discovered that this is what they make spring rolls out of. This is made daily so it is fresh and tastes like a very light tortilla. I could have just eaten these and been full! Fresh is the best they always say! We ate lunch at an Indian restaurant and had Roti, which is a type of bread cooked on a griddle shaped cooktop and meat and cheese and spices are added. It was very tasty. I also had Tarik (pulled) tea which is one of my favorite drinks here. It is made by pulling (pouring from a long distance) with milk and sugar added. It was a great day with wonderful people!
